Former Celtic youth team midfielder Callum Bagshaw has signed for Stalybridge Celtic.

Baggy’s former skipper Matty Hughes is already on the books of the National League North club who kick off their competitive season away to Boston United on Saturday.

Bagshaw played a key role in the 2010 and 2011 double triumphs as Celtic which were crowned by SFA Youth Cup wins over Rangers (IL) at Hampden.

Despite that success the Aberdonian struggled to find a club after being released by Celtic and settled for playing part-time in the Highland League with Formartine United where he was joined last season by Paul Lawson.

Announcing the deal the Stalybride website said: “Celtic have today announced the double signing of midfielders Liam Hynes and Callum Bagshaw.

Liam is a product of the Everton Academy who has impressed in Celtic’s pre season games alongside Callum who joins us after spending last season with Formartine United of the Highland League.

Leaving the Fold are Alec Mudimu who has joined Northwich Victoria and Amour Cisse Lingouba who has rejoined Droylsden where he spent time on loan.

“I’m sure Celtic fans will join me and everybody at Bower Fold in wishing them all the best for the future and also in welcoming Liam and Callum to the Fold.”

Hughes joined Fleetwood Town after leaving Celtic in 2011 but found his chances limited as they went on a spending spree to get into the Football League.

Further spells followed at Colwyn Bay and AFC Flyde before returning to full-time football with Stalybridge Celtic

Last season Stalybridge finished in 12th place in the table which was won by Solihull Motors with the next four teams going into a play-off for a place in the Conference.
