David Marshall is believed to be a £6m target for Hull City.

The former Celtic keeper had an outstanding season in the Premier League with Cardiff City in 2013/14 but has been stuck in The Championship for the last two seasons.

With Allan McGregor ruled out for six months following back surgery Sky Sports are reporting that Hull boss Steve Bruce is anxious to bring in a quality keeper.

Marshall has taken over from McGregor as Scotland’s first choice goalie picking up 22 caps with 17 of them coming from Gordon Strachan.

As a teenager Marshall shot to fame as he held Barcelona at bay in the Nou Camp helping Martin O’Neill’s side to a 1-0 aggregate win in the 2004 UEFA Cup.

The arrival of Arthur Boruc brought the keeper’s Celtic career to an end with Strachan selling him to Norwich City for £1m in 2007 following a loan stint at Carrow Road.

Two years later Marshall was on his way to Wales where he has made almost 300 appearances for Cardiff under a variety of manager.

Discussing the goalkeeping position in May Scotland boss Gordon Strachan said: “Sometimes when you have goalies as good as ours the problem is theirs, not mine. For me it doesn’t matter.

Sometimes when we play against certain teams, one of them might have an asset that singles them out for that particular game. You might think, ’It’s just a goalie’ but there are different things to consider.

It matters to them who does and doesn’t play but for me the three we have got are just different class. I might just tweak it at times. But it wouldn’t be just for the sake of giving them a game. I would tweak it for certain games when we might need a goalie who’s a bit different – more specialised in one thing.”
