Kenny Shiels is sick about speculation linking Paddy McCourt with a return to Derry City.

After being freed by Luton Town at the end of last season the charismatic former Celt had offers from clubs across Ireland to pick up his career.

Returning to the Brandywell would seem the most logical move but despite the popular support for the move Shiels has grown tired of the speculation.

I don’t want to say anything more about it,” Shiels told the Derry Journal. “It’s finished and it’s been blown out of proportion. It seems to have gone viral.

At a different stage of the season I would have had a different view, but we’re so far into the season.

I want to move on so let’s move on. I just want to talk about the next game and how we prepare for that. I’m not saying anything more about it!, he said defiantly.

The next game is so important to us and I don’t want to start going over old ground about Paddy McCourt. That’s history now, it’s gone!

Paddy’s a great player but I don’t want to talk about it any more. There’s other players about here we have to speak about – our own players and the progress that Aaron McEneff has made, Josh Daniels, Ronan Curtis, Nathan Boyle.

Are people seeing them progress? I’m sure they are. That should be the topic of conversation.”

McCourt played for Derry City between 2006 and 2008 before moving on to Celtic where his highly individualistic style and incredible skills instantly made him a fans favourite.
