A judge has thrown out the self defence plea of Stewart Robertson and jailed a Sevco fan for four months.

Ibrox season ticket holder David McDonald, aged 50, left his seat at Hampden to race onto the pitch to fight with celebrating Hibees.

In a club statement shortly after the Scottish Cup Final Robbo claimed that his team’s supporters acted in self defence after seeing their players attacked after tossing away a 2-1 lead to Hibs.

According to a court report in the Edinburgh Evening News McDonald: ‘Gesticulated at Hibs fans after their 3-2 win and tried to start a fight with one of them, before he himself was knocked to the ground.

‘He cut his head and was knocked unconcious in the brawl before being helped by a first aider. The court heard he confronted an individual for a few seconds before being punched.’

Over two months on from the scenes that shamed Scotland the SFA have still to publish a report into what went wrong or dish out any punishments.

Each club was given 21,000 tickets for the showpiece match which ensured that only Ibrox season ticket holders were able to attend the match.

Since the match Police Scotland have been surveying after match footage with 75% of those arrested at Hampden supporters of the Ibrox club.

Shortly after watching his season ticket holders fighting pitch battles Robbo explained: “We don’t condone any act of violence in football and some of our fans ended up on the pitch, but you have to go back to the provocation, the taunting and the goading.

I’ve seen some of the footage from close up and they felt threatened. They saw players being attacked by the Hibs fans. Let’s not forget that the Hibs fans came over the top. The Hibs fans initiated everything that happened. The Hibs fans ran towards them.”

Earlier in the same statement Robbo had justified singing the anti-catholic hate anthem The Billy Boys explaining: “if I had a choice between the fans singing a song or piling over the wall into a pitched battle with the Hibs fans, I know what I would choose.

That doesn’t make it right, but you have to put it into context. I’d rather have that than two or three thousand piling over the wall and we have a riot on our hands.”

Despite that plea, McDonald who had 20 previous convictions was given a four month sentence when sheriff Aisha Anwar told him: “Your conduct on May 21, however you may choose to justify it, was deplorable.

The shameful images of what occurred during the football match were replayed across the world.”

Stewart Robertson has been nominated onto the Professional Game Board of the SFA having withdrew his candacy to join the board of the SPFL due to a lack of support from other clubs.
