Celtic lost out on penalties to Leicester City after a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture in the International Champions Cup.

The build up to the match was dominated by the arrival of Kolo Toure who watched the match from the stand with his signing expected to be announced tomorrow.

On the pitch Brendan Rodgers opted to rest Erik Sviachenko as he lined up a back three of Saidy Janko, Mikael Lustig and Eoghan O’Connell.

There was little between the teams during the first half with the 32,000 crowd struggling to pick out highlights.

At the break Rodgers replaced Lustig with Efe Ambrose but the Nigerian internationalist had barely taken his position when some magic from Riyad Mahrez created an opening on the left which was brilliantly sent around Craig Gordon into the net.

Twelve minutes later Celtic were back on level terms when O’Connell sent a well placed 25 yard shot along the deck around Kasper Schmeichel and low into the net.

Despite chances at each end there was no further scoring with Leicester grabbing a bonus point when they won the shoot out after James Forrest had his effort saved by Schmeichel with Daniel Amartey stepping up to score with the final penalty.

After the match Rodgers said that he expected Toure to have an invaluable impact on Celtic.
