Jamie Lindsay has joined Morton on a season long loan.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at Dumbarton and will have no difficulty adapting to life in the Scottish Championship.

Last season Morton, managed by former Celt Jim Duffy, finished fifth in the Championship, one point above loval rivals St Mirren..

With fierce competition for places in the Celtic midfield a season of first team football at Cappielow will be much more useful than midweek Development League fixtures at the same venue.

Lindsay becomes the third Celtic player to go out on loan with Paul McMullan in the same division with Dunfermline and Fiacre Kelleher going on loan to Peterhead till the turn of the year.

Players that go out on loan are still eligible to play in the Development League for their parent club but loaned players can’t be used in cup-ties.

Next week Celtic’s Development side face Annan Athetic in the Irn Bru Cup with coach Tommy McIntyre looking forward to a fresh challenge.

Previewing Tuesday’s match with Annan he said: “On one hand it’s about development. Our young players want to get to the first-team and there have been one or two training with them under the new manager.

He has been really impressed by the young players that have come up, so that’s good but obviously we want to progress as far as we can because we feel we need these types of games. We get it in the Premier League International Cup and we get it in the UEFA Youth League so it’s one of many opportunities we have to develop our young players.”
