Jim McInally is delighted to get Fiacre Kelleher on loan until January.

The Peterhead boss was looking to add an imposing defender to his side and landed the 6ft 5in defender yesterday afternoon.

Kelleher captained Celtic in last week’s NI Super Cup and will go straight into McInally’s team.

The Peterhead boss told the club website: “Fiacre strengthens us in a position where we were left woefully short last year.

“We need to make sure that does not happen again so with bringing him in, it gives us three central defenders plus Ryan Strachan, who can fit in anywhere as he is that good a player. Fiacre is a big boy at 6 feet 6 and I feel we need that height also.

“Against East Fife on Saturday, we lost a goal from a corner and that hurt us a lot last season.

“Having a tall player in the team does not mean we will head away every corner but hopefully he can help us out in an area where we have been weak in the past.”

Kelleher formed an impressive central defensive partnership with Jamie McCart last season as Celtic went through the Development League unbeaten.

Although he never made it onto the park he was listed as a substitute a couple of times under Ronny Deila.

The 20-year-old from Cork has been a regular Irish youth internationalist and will be hoping to break through into the Irish u-21 squad this season.

Paul McMullan at Dunfermline is the only other young Celt out on loan.
