Celtic’s u-21 side lost 1-0 to Everton in the final of the NI Super Cup today in Ballymena.

The only goal of the game came in the 36th minute from Harry Charley with the hoops unable to find an equaliser.

Charley held off a few challenges on the edge of the penalty box, worked the ball on to his left foot then curled a great effort around Ross Doohan into the net.

On the hour mark Celtic’s hopes diminished when Anthony Ralston was red carded with the English side holding on comfortably to their advantage.

It was a disappointing end to the tournament after Celtic had beaten Real Sociedad 3-1 on Thursday night while Everton edged a 1-0 win over Espanyol.

The tournament was another exercise as Celtic build up to their first ever tie in the Irn Bru Cup against Annan Athletic at Cappielow on August 2.

Looking forward to that tie hoops coach Tommy McIntyre said: “It’s going to be a challenge. All respect to Annan, they’re a tough team.

We had one or two players loaned there from last year and we’ve seen them play so it’ll be a big ask, but it’s a challenge for our young players and hopefully we’ll take it. We’re looking forward to it.

Looking at the draw, respect to all the clubs, it was going to be a tough game no matter who we got but Annan have done well in the league over the past few seasons and I know the coaching staff well.

We’ll certainly do our homework, we’ll have them watched and it’s about attention to detail. We’ve got a good pre-season lined up so come the game everyone should be ready to go. We’ll do our preparation, as will they.”

CELTIC: Ross Doohan, Anthony Ralston, Aidsn McIlduff, Sam Wardrop, Fiacre Kelleher, Jamie Lindsay, Regan Hendry, Joe Thomson, BJ Crossan, Aidan Nesbitt, Calvin Miller
