Alan Stubbs couldn’t believe his luck at signing Dom Ball on a three year deal from Spurs.

While star-maker Mark Warburton moaned about loan fees while trying to get players on the cheap Rotherham put their money on the table to snap up the Petrofac legend.

It’s believed that a fee approaching six figures was needed to prise the starlet away from White Hart Lane where some shrewd observers had compared Ball to a younger version of Clint Hill.

Stubbs has been highly active in the transfer market and was thrilled to get Ball to Yorkshire despite interest from the magic hat.

The initial call was made after he played against us in the pre-season game,” Stubbs told The Star. “I wasn’t too sure whether we would have the chance to actually sign him on a full transfer.

We managed to make the initial phone call to see about his availability and we were able to get the deal done, so we are delighted.

We have looked at a couple of defensive options, and then the phone call came about. We were pleasantly surprised we were in a position where, once we got to an arranged fee, it progressed quite quickly.”

Stubbs added: “Dominic is a player I know quite a bit about from my time at Hibs with him playing at Rangers on loan from Tottenham.

He did very well and I think any young player going into that environment at Rangers is a big ask, but he fitted into it very well and he was very comfortable with the situation. We’re delighted that we’ve managed to sign him.”

After missing out on Ball Warburton is believed to be closing in on two new signings with some reports suggesting that Bilel Mohsni is close to sealing a dream return to Ibrox.
