Relieved John Hartson couldn’t contain his delight at Celtic qualifying for the group phase of the Champions League.

The former hoops striker struggled through the 90 minutes in Israel sitting in the BT Sport studio alongside Johan Mjallby, Gordon Strachan and Gary Lineker.

Like all Celtic fans the second half took an eternity to get through but with Celtic safely into tomorrow’s draw the relief in the studio was obvious to all.

As an outsider to life in Glasgow presenter Lineker asked his panel how the result would be received across Glasgow with the club from Ibrox due a £200,000 windfall which should pay Joey Barton’s wages for two months.

One twitter fan quickly caught the magic of the moment with Hartson retweeting the pain of Sevco fans to his 272,000 followers.

Earlier the Welsh striker tweeted:

Hartson’s nerves and delight were shared by Celtic fans everywhere with Brendan Rodgers feeling the tension more than most.

A third Hapoel goal seemed inevitable during the second half but inspired by Kolo Toure Celtic held out to achieve the target set out the day that Rodgers was appointed.

Straight after the match the Celtic boss admitted: “We know we can’t always play well. A lot of games we have played well but (this match) was purely about resilience and persistence and it was an amazing effort by the players on the back of everything they have been through before.

“So huge applause to them and I delighted they get their rewards after a long pre-season.”
