Whatever happened to Andre Blackman?

Andre Blackman has signed a year long contract with League Two side Crawley Town.

At the age of 25 the full-back already has a lengthy list of clubs on his CV- on top of his youth career which involved spells with Arsenal and Spurs.

Blackman made his Celtic debut at Aberdeen in March 2012 alongside Mikael Lustig and it’s fair to say that the careers of both men have headed in contrasting paths since running out at Pittodrie.

An own goal didn’t do Blackman any favours- nor did a very brief loan spell with Terry Butcher at Inverness before he was mutually consented out the door.

Brief spells at Portsmouth and Blackpool followed, with the Seasiders he hit the headlines for trying to steal a £1,000jacket from Harrods as his career headed down the pan

After handing out a 12 month contract Crawley boss Dermot Drummy told the Crawley Observer: “I was really pleased with him as he has had a few clubs, but he is getting older now and I think there is a time where they go through maturity.

I said to him, this is your opportunity, in League Two people will look, so play well for us and see where your career goes, but I hope his career is back on track and maturity is what is needed.

He has ability, physicality, he is technical, it’s just that maturity to blend in. He did well when he got fouled and he looks strong.

He has been through the Arsenal academy. Most people that come through there are developed technically first and that is evident, but physically he is very good as well.”

Crawley open their league campaign at home to Wycombe on Saturday.
