Celtic are odds on to be given a ‘Battle of Britain’ clash when the draw is made for the group stage of the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers side will be in pot four with the four English teams- Leicester City, Manchester City, Arsenal and Spurs all in different seeding pots.

With four English opponents being split into eight groups there is a 50-50 chance of Celtic being drawn against a side from south of the border.

The same odds were present for the 2012 and 2013 draws which should increase the likelihood of Rodgers returning to a Premier League ground next season on European duty.

Manchester United are the only English team that Celtic have played in the group stage, being drawn against Alex Ferguson’s side in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons.

In 2007 Shunsuke Nakamura scored a memorable winner at Celtic Park to take Celtic into the knock out phase having posted notice of his ability from set-pieces with a goal at Old Trafford.

The 2008 campaign was less memorable with Celtic finishing bottom of their group with a goal from Scott McDonald in a 1-1 draw at home to Fergie’s side probably the highlight of a disappointing campaign.

Celtic did meet Arsenal in a 2010 qualifying tie but lost home and away to tumble into the Europa League and have never met up with Leicester or Spurs although there has been plenty of friendlies against the London side down the years.

Being drawn against Spurs would see the return of Victor Wanyama to Celtic Park, in 2012 he became one of the biggest emerging talents in the game when he scored for Celtic in their 2-1 win over Barcelona.
