Fulham have announced the signing of Stefan Johansen on a three year deal from Celtic.

The midfielder was in the final season of his contract with no real interest from either club or player to agree a new deal.

When Tom Rogic and James Forrest agreed new deals it was inevitable that Johansen’s time was up with Fulham getting the deal done despite regular updates of interest from Galatasaray.

Announcing tonight’s deal the Fulham website reported: “The 25-year-old Norway international arrives on a three-year deal, with a Club option for a further 12 months.

“Johansen joined FK Bodo/Glimt in his homeland as a youngster, and was just 16 when he made his senior debut for the club.

He later moved on to Stromsgodset IF where he enjoyed tremendous success, finishing second in the Tippeligaen in 2012, before winning the competition the following year.

In January 2014 the central midfielder completed his move to Celtic for a reported £2m, and he won the Scottish Premiership title in each of his two-and-a-half seasons at the club.

He was named Celtic’s Player of the Season and joint Players’ Player of the Season for 2014/15, and departs having made 114 appearances and scored 20 times.

“Johansen netted on his Norway debut in August 2013, and has now represented his country on 29 occasions.”

Speaking earlier today Brendan Rodgers admitted: “Stefan’s going into the last year of his contract, I have found him a really good guy.

He has worked over pre-season and it’s been difficult because he’s been unable to reach an agreement with the club but I think he has always wanted to play in England, so the opportunity has come for him. He wasn’t going to sign a new deal, so it’s one that probably works well for both really.

“I don’t think it’s complete yet but it’s something that could happen, possibly in the next couple of days.”
