Will the SFA find the guts to do something about former convict Joey Barton’s foul mouthed tweeting or do they share Neil Doncaster’s view that anything goes in show business.

Shortly after Celtic had earned Scottish football a £20m windfall the man who relegated Newcastle and QPR was spreading anger on twitter.

It is quite clear that Barton is obsessed with all things Celtic, after supporting the hoops from afar it must be painful to be in the same city but at the wrong club.

Clearly Mark Warburton has no intention of getting the former convict to behave responsibly leaving the task to the SFA.

Going by past form he may get ‘severely censured’ at a push but it’s quite possible his comments will be ignored by those charged with promoting the game.

In 2014 Stenhousemuit striker John Gemmell was hit with a charge of ‘making comments of an offensive nature on Twitter in relation to Rangers FC and Alistair McCoist”

He tweeted: “McCoist is a *****, game against Stenny should be midweek?… Why, so we are ****** after working all day whilst your boys can lie and get a massage for three days before checking their £5k a week wages are in? Away and ****off #Embarrassing.

“Can’t wait to get a massage after training today and a nice healthy meal after too …. Actually I’m working 2-6, probably with a pot noodle.”

After dismissing last week’s comments about Brendan Rodgers Mark Warburton can explain his thoughts on Barton after Celtic delivered his ailing company a £200,000 windfall.

Last week Warbo explained: “I’m sure you know, as I do, that it was a tongue-in-cheek banter-type comment. There was no malice, there was no disrespect from Joey.

“I’m sure you guys like those type of comments. There was no malice behind it. The comments after that were very serious, the comments about recognising the size of the game and the scale of the game.

If you have taken it out of context, you need help yourself. It was a very light-hearted moment. If you can’t see that then there’s a problem. There was no disrespect there.”

Perhaps the former city trader can explain the context of the latest tweet to the SFA?

NOTE: In 2008 Barton spent 67 days in Strangeways Prison, Manchester, he has never played in the Champions League
