Aidan Nesbitt is prepared to take the long route into the Celtic first team.

The winger joined Morton on Tuesday morning and completed the day by knocking Hamilton out of the Betfred Cup in the evening.

Going out on loan can be a hit or miss experience with no guarantees. When McGregor went on loan to Notts County in 2013 it looked a case of out of sight out of mind but a year later he was in the first team and scoring goals in Europe for fun.

Nesbitt’s move to Partick Thistle in January never worked out but by dropping a division with Morton he is confident of making a big impact.

I spoke to Brendan Rodgers about the move and he was happy for me to come to Morton,” Nesbitt explained.

He let Jamie Lindsay come here and after he had watched a few Morton games he thought it was a good idea for me to sign.

He told me Jim Duffy is a great coach. Everyone at the club was telling me good things about Morton and it made it an easy decision.

In January, I signed a new three-and-a-half year deal at Celtic so I have that time to go and develop.

Look at the example of Callum McGregor. He didn’t break into the Celtic first team until he was 21.He has been brilliant for Celtic recently, so it shows there are different routes.

As long as I can keep developing and keep playing well, then I’m hoping to create and score a lot of goals. If I do that, I will get my chances.”

In the quarter final draw for the Betfred Cup Morton were given a home tie against Dundee United with Celtic hosting Alloa Athletic.
