It was the match with everything but a 3-3 draw can be a manager’s nightmare.

Pep Guardiola and Brendan Rodgers are known for their attacking instincts with the 90 minutes at Celtic Park providing a treat for those that feel European football is losing it’s sparkle.

Neither side considered parking the bus with the fans in the stadium and television millions served up a treat that will be long remembered.

“I can’t criticise the team, but there’s always elements we can be better in,” Rodgers admitted. “We were brilliant, the pressing and the energy. Every time we went forward we looked like we could score.

“Apart from the Barcelona game these players have been operating at a high level this season. Now, to do it against that team, it was a magnificent performance.

“How we defend is what we’ve been working on. All my teams have played with that intent. We have players that are developing and evolving all the time. Tonight, how they played and performed was top class. That will give them confidence going forward.”

Guardiola said: “It was difficult for us. I’m happy with the reaction from the players, it’s not easy to score three goals away. I don’t know how many chances they had after the third goal. We should have won it.

“It’s disappointing to concede at the beginning of each half, but that’s football. I know how difficult it is here and they started so strongly. The second goal was unlucky and I don’t remember any action for them after they scored their third goal.

“It’s okay, it’s one point, we didn’t lose. You always learn. Now we have Barcelona, maybe the best team. We think about Spurs and after the international break we’ll think about that.”
