Scott Brown is determined to prove that Celtic deserve to be in the Champions League.
Since beating Spartak Moscow in 2012 to secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League there hasn’t been much fun in European competition for players or supporters with two Europa League campaigns instantly forgettable.
Barcelona scored 13 goals back-to-back against the hoops while the last home group match finished in a 3-0 defeat from AC Milan.
Manchester City are capable of hitting the same heights as those Latin clubs but tonight Brown is determined to restore some of the old Celtic Park magic
“We’re good enough to be in this competition and we’re good enough to get something at home, especially in front of those fans,” the Celtic skipper stated. “When they are behind you it’s incredible, especially on Champions League nights.
“It’s the atmosphere on the day, getting off the team bus with the fans behind you, which remains the case for the 90 minutes of the match. They restore belief, even when you’re struggling and having to dig deep.
“You go that extra mile for them and they make you put your body on the line.
“It’s not just about the reputation of Scottish football against City, but the reputation of Celtic Park as well. We have played some great teams here and have secured some good results. It has been hard, but we have always believed in ourselves.
“This competition is a chance for us to show Celtic and Scottish football in a good light. We let ourselves down in Barcelona and we need to bounce back from that. It is about what we do against Manchester City and on our day we can play as well as anybody.
“This is where this club deserves to be and where we want to be. We don’t want to end up in last place so we have to fight hard, home and away.”
