Allan Johnston was delighted to sign John Herron on loan from Blackpool.

The Dunfermline boss completed one of the last deals of the transfer window to bring the midfielder to East End Park after a year with the Seasiders.

Herron was a key figure in the all conquering Celtic youth sides of 2011-2014 but only managed to make two first team appearances.

The Coatbridge bhoy came through the ranks alongside Joe Chalmers, Marcus Fraser and Mikey Miller but found his first team chances limited due to the quality of midfielders that Celtic had assembled.

Jackson Irvine, Paul George and Filip Twardzik all joined that same batch but had to move on to push their careers forward.

Herron played and scored for Blackpool in the League Cup win over Bolton and also in the defeat away to Crystal Palace before making the move to Fife.

Describing the transfer to the Dunfermline website Johnston said: β€œIt came about at the last minute. I heard a lot of good reports about him. Blackpool were keen for him to get some games so it’s the perfect opportunity for both parties.

β€œHe is an attacking midfielder who can score goals, he was playing for Blackpool’s first team a couple of weeks ago and scored against Bolton, he spent a lot of time at Celtic as a youngster and has played for Scotland all the way through the different age groups. He is another quality addition to our squad.”

Herron is joined at Dunfermline by Nicky Clark who had a short spell with Bury after being released by Sevco.
