It wasn’t quite at the same level as the classic Traynor v Young clash in 2011 but Radio Scotland listeners got a taste of the frustrations and anger of two Ibrox fans live on air yesterday during Sportsound.

With Sevco toiling in the top flight, the myth of the magic hat debunked and an Irishman driving Celtic to six in a row it’s a sensitive time for the state broadcaster as their unquestioning backing of various Ibrox regimes comes home to roost.

Barely a question has been raised about Mr King’s over investment or Mark Warburton’s lack of managerial experience with some of the friction surfacing after yesterday’s goal-less draw with Ross County.

The bonkers statement from the fully endorsed Club 1872 accusing Celtic of sectarianism touched a raw nerve as Graham Spiers raised the issue with Dick Wilson jumping in to the defence of the tribute act.

On the post-match Sportsound programme Spiers said: “Well I think that Rangers are the last club in the world that should be complaining about sectarian hatred of other fans, I think that was a mistake.”

Before finishing his sentence Wilson butted in saying: “Well they are allowed to complain, they are allowed to complain. I don’t think that it’s right that they just sit back and take it.”

Spiers butted in at that point, stopping Wilson in his tracks and adding: “Richard, I know you’ll bat eagerly for Rangers.”

This time Wilson interrupted saying: “Oh hold on a minute.”

The state broadcaster is still officially at odds with the club from Ibrox but that stance hasn’t brought about any critical analysis of the company finances or, prior to getting pumped by Celtic, the Magic Hat.
