Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Celtic were too soft against Barcelona.

The hoops lost 7-0 in Barcelona but there was one statistic almost as damning as the scoreline.

Bertie Auld, Davie Hay, Roy Aitken and Neil Lennon would have been horrified but the hoops committed just THREE fouls in the Nou Camp.

On Wednesday night Manchester City visit Celtic Park with Pep Guardiola’s side capable of dishing out a Barca type exhibition.

Group C could turn into a six match nightmare but Rodgers won’t let his players stand off admiring Guardiola’s All Stars.

Reflecting on whether Celtic were too soft in the Nou Camp the Celtic boss admitted: “I think it’s fair. When I came away from the game and analysed it, we were far too passive.

“We were set up to be super-aggressive, when the ball gets to the middle section of the field the idea was to press them in it. The players tactically, you’ve got to be aggressive, you’ve got to disrupt their game.

“We can’t go in and match Barcelona at the Nou Camp in football terms — no matter how good I think we are.

“But that was the only disappointment for us. I think we only had three fouls in the game.

“We defend forward, we’re a team that go and provoke the opponent, press them. That’s every game. But we didn’t do that in Barcelona.

“It will be a great evening for the fans on Wednesday and we’ll certainly be much more aggressive.”
