Six years after taking over as Chief Executive of the SFA Stewart Regan is feeling outside pressure for the first time.

Regan has presided over one disaster after another during his tenure highlighted by the Five Way Agreement and Continuation Myth.

The former Yorkshire County Cricket chief has prided himself in his efficiency as an administrator but even that shield disappeared yesterday when it was announced that Hibs and Sevco would escape punishment following the after match scenes that marred the Scottish Cup Final.

Supporters of both clubs invaded the pitch, fought with each other with over 70 arrests made after mounted police restored an uneasy peace.

After the match Regan stated: “The Scottish FA is appalled by the scenes of disorder on the field immediately after full time and at the contemptible behaviour that ensued.

What should have been an historic, memorable Scottish Cup final will now, sadly, be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Police Scotland and the stadium management initiated a crisis liaison group as soon as the disorder began and we thank them for containing the situation as quickly as possible.

The Scottish FA, along with Police Scotland and the stadium management, have initiated a full investigation into the scenes that unfolded to understand how such a volume of supporters were able to enter the field.”

That full investigation has resulted in no action being taken with the Scottish Government demanding answers and action.

A spokesman from Holyrood said: “The disorder that marred the Scottish Cup Final was unacceptable and we are disappointed by this outcome. It is essential that robust, meaningful measures are in place to allow such behaviour to be dealt with effectively.

Independent research shows that fans overwhelmingly support the goal of eradicating offensive behaviour from matches. We have been clear that we will take steps if the progress we need to see isn’t being made.

Our preference remains that football should proactively deliver a solution and we are continuing to working closely with the authorities and clubs to encourage them to do so.”

Regan’s position as chief executive has never been challenged by any club.
