John Hartson saluted how Brendan Rodgers has restored Celtic pride after the 3-3 draw with Manchester City.

The hoops match the Premier League winners in every department but despite being ahead three times had to settle for a point from the Group C clash.

After losing 7-0 away to Barcelona there was some fears that another hiding could be in store but from the first whistle Celtic were on the front foot- pushing a pressing City more than any English side has managed.

Hartson starred in a few epic European nights and was delighted to see Rodgers side restoring the magic of Celtic Park as a ground that opponents fear.

With Barcelona winning 2-1 away to Borussia Monchengladback Celtic will now host the German side knowing that a win would put them in a commanding position for third place and a slot in the Europa League.

Hartson and fellow pundit Chris Sutton suffered through two seasons of Europa League football under Ronny Deila but after tonight’s performance the secondary European tournament holds more appeal.

Having matched Pep Guardiola’s side in every area of the pitch it’s clear that Rodgers has halted the rapid decline in Celtic’s European profile.

Two games against Monchengladbach will provide a realistic view of where Celtic currently stand, after tonight’s display it’s unlikely that the Germans will be looking forward to a trip into Glasgow’s east end.
