Like the rest of Europe Gary Lineker looked on in awe at Moussa Dembele’s second goal of the night in Celtic’s 3-3 draw with Manchester City.

The young Frenchman showed an incredible mix of confidence and nerve to restore Celtic’s advantage with an overhead kick that stunned Pep Guardiola’s superstars as they attempted to implement their half time team-talk.

Dembele is already being monitored by the biggest sides in the game with his double strike confirming the view that he is destined for the very top of the game.

At 20-years old he could have taken the easy option of a Premier League contract but instead wanted the chance to prove himself in the Champions League.

Tonight was his night with Lineker not the only person to sit up and take notice of the striker who was plodding away in the Championship six months ago.

In his Champions League debut he missed a penalty away to Barcelona that would have drawn Celtic level but that memory was wiped out in front of 60,000 fans in the stadium and a global television audience of millions.

Unfortunately Manchester City were back on level terms through Nolito after 52 minutes but Celtic were well worth their point.

On the night though the honours were with the homeside with Dembele’s goal, created by Nir Bitton and Kieran Tierney on the left the outstanding moment in a game that throbbed from the first minute.

With Lineker joining Dembele’s list of admirers it appears that the young Frenchman is capable of achieving anything he wishes for from the game- perhaps one day in the colours of Manchester City…
