Brendan Rodgers believes that Pep Guardiola has already lifted Manchester City to a new level.

The former Barcelona boss has only been in charge of City for a handful of competitive matches but with 100% records in the Premier League and Champions League it seems that the Pep magic is well underway.

Tomorrow night Rodgers will attempt to match up to the side that looks like running away with the Premier League title and admits that it is a daunting task.

City’s owners have craved a genuine European presence with Rodgers convinced that tomorrow’s opponents are on route to greatness.

“I have watched them in the last four or five seasons and they have always had an outstanding group of players, winning leagues and cups but the level of play has gone up since Pep has come in,” the Irishman said.

“The intensity has gone up and they are a team working with one idea and they are a hard team to contain.

“We know it is going to be a difficult night but we know it is going to be a difficult night for them.

As a coach and players these are the types of occasions and games that you look forward to and we look forward to it.

“We have a respect for their qualities and their game but we have to ensure we are super-committed into our way of working and we know we have players that can give them a problem.”

Rodgers confirmed that Craig Gordon will start in goals for Celtic.
