Chris Sutton believes that Celtic have made a marquee signing- while slaughtering the £30m that Spurs paid Newcastle for Moussa Sissoko.

There is no direct link between the two comments but if Sissoko had moved to Everton it may have opened the door for James McCarthy to come on loan to Celtic.

That door has closed however with some hoops fans feeling let down that Wednesday passed without any further signings.

Sutton knows a thing or two about star quality from his playing days at Celtic and feels that Sinclair can thrive under the pressure and demands of wearing the hoops.

The former Aston Villa man has scored in his first three SPFL appearances with Sutton confident that there is a lot more to come from Sinclair.

I understand some of the fans being frustrated,” he explained to Daily Record readers. “They will look at the season-ticket sales, the money made from the likes of Stefan Johansen going and now the riches of the Champions League coming their way.

They wanted the kind of player that would get them excited but it’s not always that easy.

I’d argue Sinclair is already that sort of player. Also, there are a lot of factors at work and it’s better to slowly plot your way through the window than simply throwing cash at it in the final few hours.”

Turning his attention to the transfer market down south he added: “Just look at England. The market has gone crazy down south. Nothing sums it up more than the carry-on with Moussa Sissoko.

It’s ridiculous Spurs shelled out £30m for him and Newcastle will be delighted. He was a disgrace at St James’s Park last season as there was no doubt he downed tools towards the end of the campaign when it looked like Newcastle were doomed.”
