Legia Wasaw have been ordered to play Real Madrid behind closed doors as a result of multiple disciplinary charges arising from their Champions League defeat by Borussia Dortmund.

The Polish champions are serial offenders and faced six charges from the match with the most serious being racist behavior.

Legia attempted to play down that charge but now find themselves playing the most glamorous tie of their centenary year in front of a handful of supporters.

Following today’s disciplinary hearings UEFA announced: “The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary (CEDB) has ordered Legia Warszawa to play its next UEFA competition match as host club behind closed doors. The club has also been fined € 80,000. It was decided to close the proceedings regarding racist behavior.”

Almost immediately Legia announced that they would appeal against the punishment, requesting full written rulings and determined to focus on the chants used in the racist charge.

According to Polish website Legia Sport: “Journalists met with Seweryn Dmowski, Director. Media and public relations who explained that UEFA’s decision is not final. That the club will use all ways to appeal.- We will be playing a full written reasons for the decision. Depending on the content, our lawyers will join the appeal – he said

“Representatives of the club will go to UEFA headquarters to present explanatory material. For now, however, we do not have a full explanation – get it within a few days – so we can only speculate, for which we were punished.

At the moment it seems to us, that raised the penalty for racist behavior. We will continue to argue that they were not racist and discriminatory character.”
