Despite the acclaim that his side received for their 3-3 draw with Manchester City Brendan Rodgers couldn’t hide his disappointment over the goals that his side lost.

Celtic were ahead three times but never got the opportunity to build on their lead as City quickly levelled each time.

It was an epic evening of passion, excitement and thrills but after losing three goals any coach is bound to have regrets.

We are disappointed with the goals we conceded,” Rodgers admitted. “We can do better but the performance was outstanding. To play against a team like Manchester City was incredible.

Tactically, if you aren’t organised they can really hurt you — but that was a big game from us.

For me it’s another big step forward for us in terms of our improvement as a team. This is such a positive night for us.

Yes, we could have done better at the goals we conceded but I felt we could have won the game.

There are areas where I know we need players, at this level of football, to keep pushing forward but of the players we have at the club, I can’t ask any more.

The club have been incredible and you can see a team which has been really aggressive in the way they have been playing and working.

We have seen it domestically and, although they wouldn’t have been happy with Barcelona, this was a real good marker and measure of how the players have been improving in a very short period of time.”
