Neil Lennon didn’t spare his Hibs players after watching them crash out of the Irn Bru Cup by losing 2-1 to St Mirren at Easter Road.

That trophy isn’t one of Lennon’s priorities but after four matches without a win the Hibs boss is concerned about the season is shaping up.

After a five match winning start to The Championship campaign Hibs looked like running away with the title but with trips to Raith Rovers and Dunfermline coming up the Scottish Cup holders are looking less than convincing.

Alex Harris opened the scoring for Hibs in the 37th minute but Stevie Mallon equalised before the break with David Clarkson scoring the winner with eight minutes left to play.

It’s absolute nonsense, it’s amateur stuff,” Lennon said about his side’s display. “We have senior players who have no thought about what they are doing.

“We scored and then we switched off for the first. We then gave away an awful goal in the second half.

“I gave some players an opportunity today and I’m not sure that some of them took it.

“There’s a nervousness about us and I’m not sure why. It’s definitely a psychological thing. We’re lacking in urgency to win games.”

Lennon left Jason Cummings out of the starting XI but sent his leading scorer on in place of Martin Boyle with 20 minutes left to play.

In the other Irn Bru cup ties there were wins for Alloa away to Welsh side Bala Town, Dundee United and Dunfermline with All Saints of Wales winning 3-1 away to Forfar.
