Valerenga have sent an SOS to Ronny Deila with three matches left in the season.

The former Celtic boss was due to take over at the end of the season but with Valerenga dragged into a relegation fight Deila’s appointment has been brought forward.

With three matches left to play Valerenga are three points clear of a play-off spot with the board taking no chances by bringing in Deila to replace the outgoing Kjetil Rekdal

We’ve done this because we think it’s the best for the team,” Deila said. “We think it is a good solution and I am very excited to be with the team now.

There will be no major changes, but sometimes it is nice to get a new voice and maybe it’s good that the voice has been on the beach for three months and not been involved in a long and hard season.

We have shown previously that we can beat anyone in this league but we need to raise the performance we had against Stabaek (a 1-1 home draw).

The training has been very good. Now it’s about finding the right level of tension. I am very optimistic. I look forward to fighting and it is wonderful to be going again.”

Valerenga have taken just three points from their last five matches to fall to 11th place in the 16 team Elitesieren.

Deila’s first match in charge is tomorrow away to Tromso who are a point behind before they complete their fixtures at home to Lillestrom and away to Viking Stavanger.

Molde, who beat Celtic home and away in the Europa League last season, are in fourth place, three points off of a Europa League place.
