The prospect of Scott Brown resuming his international career was greeted by a resounding thumbs down from Celtic fans.
Brown’s form this season has been astonishing with most hoops fans believing that the lack of international football has been a major factor.
Against Manchester City in the Champions League he was as impressive as any of Pep Guardiola’s players.
While Brown and Celtic have gone from strength to strength the opposite could be said of the Scotland national side.
After the excuses for failing to join Wales and Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 Gordon Strachan’s side were given a very favourable draw for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
England, fresh from their Euro 2016 ko against Iceland, are group favourites but there’s nothing especially formidable about Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta.
Four points from three matches, finishing up with a 3-0 defeat in Slovakia have put Strachan under pressure with the Wembley fixture looked on as a make or break match.
From a Celtic perspective the treatment of Leigh Griffiths seems bizarre with Strachan preferring to go with middle of the road English Championship strikers rather than the hoops forward.
An international return for Brown is clearly an emergency action but it’s difficult to see who benefits from the decision, one thing for certain is that most Celtic fans would rather see the new dad-of-three on domestic rather than international duty when Strachan takes his side to Wembley next month.
@videocelts I think he is endangering how much longer he can play at the top end with Celtic, I hope I’m wrong

@videocelts Can’t see any benefit for Celtic at all. More risk of injury & tiredness. From a selfish point of view id be disapointed.

@videocelts absolutely none joe, love Scotland but once gone a player should never go back, more games equals less time for recuperation
