Erik Sviatchenko has revealed that bottom of the table Dundee have been Celtic’s toughest opponents this season.
Brendan Rodgers side have won all but one domestic games this season with only a 2-2 draw at Inverness Caley Thistle preventing a whitewash.
After the 3-3 thriller with Manchester City the hoops found it tough going at Dens Park where it required a single goal from Scott Brown to claim all three points.
Paul Hartley’s side haven’t won since the opening day of the season and are now a point adrift of Partick Thistle at the foot of the table.
Sviatchenko enjoyed a quiet game defensively against Sevco on Sunday and had a refreshing take on which club had posed the biggest threat to Celtic this season.
“I think Dundee away was a difficult game,” the defender said. “They played well as they always do when we play against them.
“Sunday was not an easy game, that is not what I’m saying. I’m just saying we were the better team, we were pushing, we were dominant — and we could have scored a lot more goals.”
One of those goals ought to have been scored by the former Midtjylland defender when he headed past Matt Gilks in the 48th minute.
Incredibly Craig Thomson blew for a free kick after Clint Hill collapsed to the deck with Sviatchenko amazed that his ‘goal’ was chalked off.
Despite that set-back the defender never doubted that the hoops would come out on top.
He added: “I didn’t feel like it was going the wrong way. I just felt if we kept on going it would come.
“It wasn’t just me who had that belief, it was the entire 11 players on the pitch. We believed we could take the game before it went to extra-time and penalties. We were dominant and we kept pushing and that is why we were rewarded in the end.”
