Chris Sutton dished out a typically brutal assessment of Celtic’s BetFred Cup win over Sevco at Hampden.

It took a late flick of Moussa Dembele’s heal to book Celtic’s place in the final against Aberdeen but there was no doubting the gulf in class between the teams.

While the first half was more evenly contested the hoops took control after the break with only some highly dubious decisions from Craig Thomson.

Sutton is no fan of the referee and included the whistler in his post match tweet.

Celtic should have been ahead three minutes into the second half when Erik Sviatchenko brilliantly directed a header into the net only for Thomson to blow for a free kick as Clint Hill fell to the ground for no apparent reason.

Nine minutes from the final whistle Scott Sinclair was scythed down by Lee Wallace but Thomson elected not to award a penalty.

Wallace’s luck ran out in the 87th minute when he lost out on possession to Leigh Griffiths with the hoops striker providing the perfect assist for Dembele to flick the ball into the net.

Assessing his side’s display Brendan Rodgers said: “Yes, because I thought we were very dominant today in terms of chances and power and strength and quality in our game.

“Sometimes you never know, if the chances don’t go in and you don’t get that little bit of luck you are always vulnerable to a counter attack.

“Tactically the players were brilliant, we stopped them building. Then when we had the ball we created opportunities and looked a real threat going forward so every element of our game was at a high level.
