The delusions and pain of Graeme Souness

Graeme Souness fears that Celtic are on the brink of TEN-IN-A-ROW.

The former Rangers (IL) boss was on Sky Sports duty yesterday but watching Chelsea hammering Manchester United couldn’t dilute the pain of events at Hampden Park.

Like Walter Smith, Souness has no concept of managing a club that lives within it’s means following normal business practices like living spending in line with what you bring in.

After running up a £6m debt funding his revolution Souness managed to get his close friend Dave Murray to take over the club as delusions matched mammoth debts.

Funded initially by the Bank of Scotland through Gavin Masterton followed by a tax evasion scheme that denied Her Majesty millions in taxes the inevitable happened within a year of Murray picking up a pound coin from Craig Whyte.

Despite the pain of liquidation it seems that little lessons have been learned down Ibrox way. Rather than having a club that operates within it’s means Souness wants someone else to pile in their cash to prevent Celtic from racking up the titles.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Souness, who received an EBT payment while managing Blackburn Rovers, said: “The gap is there, we have to accept the gap is there and hopefully we close that very quickly and that will be done by investment.

There’s no magic wand to make the players you’ve got far better players. You can improve them slowly and the players there, can you make them that much better that they can catch Celtic this season? I don’t think so. I think it’ll need investment.

It’s down to the owner finding money for the manager. Right now the manager is operating with one hand tied behind his back.”

It seems that Souness has difficulty determining between the words investment and donation.

If he was willing to invest some of his own money perhaps his good friend Brian Kennedy and other well to do bluenoses would follow suit- just to stop Celtic.
