The nomadic career of Alex Crean has taken another strange twist with the young keeper signing for the Arsenal Academy.

Twelve months ago the Londoner signed for Celtic but complex FIFA rules on cross border transfer of ‘children’ delayed his registration with the keeper unable to play in competitive matches.

Crean did play for Celtic in the pre-season friendly at Vale of Clyde and also the Loch Lomond tournament where he shared duties with Aidan McAdams.

In a Q and A at the Loch Lomond tournament Michael O’Halloran took part in a Q and A with Video Celts

VC: How has this squad been brought together, goalkeeper Alex Crean is from Crystal Palace, have the majority come through the ranks for a few seasons?

M O’H: Alex is the exception in that group of 20, every single one has come through our academy from an early age, some from as young as 8. That is something that we want to do, promote and develop our home grown players, the proof of that was there over the weekend with boys that have been with us a long time.

The registration delay held up his progress, with McAdams, Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard around he left Celtic a few months later to enjoy regular football at Bromley.

On his twitter account there is a picture of his family inside the Celtic boardroom as he signed his contract with Celtic matters still close to his heart.

Clips of the Green Brigade have been retweeted, during the opening day of the SPFL season he tweeted ‘Worst dive I’ve ever seen, shock it happens to us though’ followed by ‘Scott Sinclair’ what a guy’ after the former Aston Villa man scored as a substitute on his Celtic debut.

Whatever he may go on to achieve in his career it’s very clear that Crean is still very much a bhoy.
