Tom Rogic has spoken up about the social and cultural obstacles in his route to the top of the game.

The midfielder is well into his fourth season as a Celtic player and enjoying a new lease of life as a key part of Brendan Rodgers treble chasing side.

Rogic has had to battle through a number of injury problems and spent four months out on loan with Melbourne Victoria in a bid, that was ultimately unsuccessful, to make it to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil.

It took the midfielder ten months to regain full fitness after missing out on the World Cup with the 2018 tourney in Russia now a big target for the 23-year-old.

Explaining the issues he has had to deal with Rogic told the SBS website: “Growing up in Australia, football is not the dominant sport.

“A lot of the countries in Europe, the players grow up only knowing football and nothing else, and they’re closer to their friends and family.

“Realistically if we want to make it to the top level, as Australians we have to move to the other side of the world and prove ourselves over there.

“It’s part of the game, and part of the reason we do it. It’s always nice to prove people wrong.”

On Tuesday Rogic will be in action for Australia away to Thailand in a World Cup qualifier before returning to Scotland for Celtic’s SPFL clash at Kilmarnock.
