Brendan Rodgers knows that Celtic are all about the fans- or the people that I love- as he referred to them following Celtic’s 3-0 Betfred Cup success over Aberdeen.

The Irishman remained calm and composed but there was a feeling and purpose to his words as he celebrated six months at the club with a trophy.

“I am proud to be the manager of Celtic and bring a trophy to the people I love, the club I support and the players but that’s it,” he stated.

That quote will soon obtain legendary status with Rodgers knowing exactly what he is doing as he takes control of a job few expected him to get.

Not that he wasn’t qualified to manage Celtic but the feeling was that the challenge and salary package wasn’t enough to tempt him away from a likely Premier League offer.

Having travelled regularly with family and friends to watch Celtic as a fan Rodgers knows what Celtic means to so many, across Scotland, Ireland and further afield.

Being part of a historic success means the world to him- but so to does ensuring on going success.

“It is a winning club,” he added. “That is what the great history of this club is based upon.

“It makes the milestone, that century of trophies over the course of history and now we have to look to the next one and start the next century of trophies and that will be important for the club

“But for now it is a great night for the Celtic supporters to celebrate, they must have enjoyed the performance and, as I say, we push for the next one.
