Celtic’s u-23 side face Aston Villa on Wednesday in their first match in the Premier League International Cup.

Norwich City and Valencia are also in Group C with the young hoops visiting Carrow Road on November 16 with a venue still to be decided for the November 30 clash with Valencia.

This is the third season that Celtic have taken part in the competition which aims to give Academy players international experience.

A total of 24 clubs are taking part with a split of 12 English and 12 international sides which includes Ajax, Feyenoord, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Villarreal who are the holders.

Celtic are likely to field an u-19 side similar to the team that lost 4-1 to Borussia Monchengladbach this week in the Champions League with Tommy McIntyre coaching the squad.

Villa are well known as having one of the best academies in England and won the 2012/13 Next Gen Series by beating Chelsea 2-0 in the final. In the group phase Villa beat Celtic 2-1 at home with Jackson Irvine scoring for the visitors with the teams sharing a 2-2 draw in the return match at Firhill with Celtic’s counters coming from an own goal and one from Filip Twardzik.

In the two group matches played so far Valencia have lost 2-0 at Norwich and 2-1 at Aston Villa.
