A Celtic Inevitability

Can anyone deny Celtic a sixth title in a row? If the betting odds were any indication, it’s a resounding no.

As the season hurtles towards the Christmas Break, stopping Celtic from a sixth title in a row seems increasingly unlikely. As it is, Celtic have a commanding lead in Scottish top-flight football. Sat lotus atop the table, no one is within touching distance.

Closing the gap looks an impossible task, even though there’s a lot of football to be had yet. Celtic remain strong, not least of all they’ve taken the measure of both Aberdeen and Rangers earlier this season behind a rollicking 4-1 and 5-1 win, respectively.

Not surprisingly, Celtic’s deathly grip on the Premiership correlates to 1.01 football odds at the sports betting exchange to win a sixth title. By comparison, Aberdeen are priced at 51.00 while Rangers are hanging on 41.00 football odds to win the title. To put it bluntly, it would take a minor miracle for a team not named Celtic to win Scotland’s Premiership this season.

So where do Scottish football betting fans turn to for value bets on Celtic? The Premiership isn’t a foregone conclusion just yet – it would be somewhat disrespectful to the rest of the field to call it so soon – but clearly the football odds don’t offer much value as they are.

Celtic have already picked up the League Cup, a competition where their dominance hasn’t always been so great, as last term, Ross County stunned Celtic 3-1 in the semi-finals en route to the title (defeating Hibernian 2-1).

A much tougher ask was European football, where Celtic currently prop up the table in Champions League with just two points. Advancement into the knockout stages of Europe’s top flight club football competition is out of reach, so they’ll have to wait another year.
