Neil Doncaster has been booted off the board of the EPFL.

The highly influential European Professional Football League body is the main way for leagues to communicate with UEFA on matters such as reform of the European competitions.

Recently the EPFL have expressed their opposition to plans to give the top four clubs from the four leading nations automatic places in the group stage of the Champions League.

Doncaster was voted onto the board for the 2013-2016 cycle but clearly made little impression on his European counterparts with the chairman and vice chairman coming from the Swedish and Danish leagues.

Highlighting their opposition to the UEFA Champions League plans the EPFL have announced that the Memorandum of Understanding with UEFA will terminate on 15 March 2017.

That agreement prevented leagues from allowing live televising of matches on UEFA Champions League and Europa League nights.

That aspect has been a big handicap to clubs outwith the elite preventing games such as a Scottish Cup replay between Nibs and Hearts being televised at the same time as Champions League matches involving clubs from Germany and France.

It’s not thought that Doncaster’s demotion will have any negative impact on Scottish football.
