Erik Sviatchenko has been analysing his performances since the age of 15.

A year ago the Danish defender and Brendan Rodgers would never have crossed paths but over the last few months they have clicked spectacularly.

Celtic’s Champions League campaign has provided the toughest test of the season but without doubt the hoops are in far better shape today than when they faced Barcelona in September.

Rodgers recently highlighted Sviatchchenko’s hunger to learn with the defender already involved in the sort of self analysis that is central to Rodgers way of coaching.

Making players better is the mantra of the Celtic boss with his Danish defender a long time student of that approach.

I have done it since I was 15,” he told The Sun about his computer analysis.

It is a good thing to go through a game, analyse it and then put it out of your thoughts. It helps you going to the next game by asking: ‘What can you do better’?

For instance, from the Man City game there were some things I thought I could do better, and it is always good to go through it with Chris Davies who I am working with at Celtic.

Chris has a take on it as well, asking: ‘Could you have done better? Could you have been squeezing up’? or ‘Did you do the right thing to stay back because there was a runner at your back’?

You have to know these things in the game. You take in all this information and become a better player. That is how it works.”

Sviatchenko will continue his partnership with Jozo Simunovic tonight when Celtic face Partick Thistle at Firhill.

The Dane missed last Saturday’s 4-3 win at Motherwell and will be keen to contnue his personal clean sheet record and push Celtic 11 points clear at the top of the table ahead of a run of three home matches in eight days.
