Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he turned down two lucrative offs from China before taking charge of Celtic.

The Irishman has completely rejuvenated Celtic in six months with his own career also back on an upwards curve.

A year ago Rodgers was on gardening leave coming to terms with life after Liverpool when the big money offers arrived from the far east.

Speaking to TalkSPORT this morning he said: “When I left Liverpool I had no intention of doing anything for a few months, that was the reality, I wanted to take a couple of months out then get back into football in the new year.

“In that period I had one or two options from England, I had some abroad. I had two out in China which were opportunities to go out there to see how the game is taking off.

“I just wanted to wait and see what came up, thankfully for me it worked out perfectly. Once Ronny had decided he was moving on it was exciting, I’m fortunate and lucky enough to get the opportunity to come up here to work.”

As well as the development of players like Moussa Dembele being noticed Rodgers own profile has risen since the start of the season.

The sacking season is still to get underway in England but it’s unlikely that Slaven Bilic and Alan Pardew will still be in their current jobs in the new year.

Rodgers will be an obvious candidate for any Premier League job but with the right environment and challenge at Celtic the Irishman is no rush to head back south of the border.

“I had the chance to stay in the Premier League, I had a couple of options but I just felt that I had to come away from it,” he added. “I wanted to get on with coaching side. The focus on the Premier League is great but sometimes it falls out of the football side. I’m a coach and I want to improve players.

“I respect that the media has a job to do but for me to come out of that, come to one of the great clubs in the world and be working fully on players.”
