Graeme Souness has accused Dave King of failing to deliver in his Sevco promises.

Figures of £30m and £50m investments were made by the South African based criminal in the run up to regime change in March 2015.

And stopping Celtic.

Almost two years later King has still to invest a penny in the new club while on the park Mark Warburton has created a shambles of a squad on high wages.

If Celtic continue their winning run they could go into the new year 20 points clear of the tribute act and perhaps put in a bid for the #goingfor55 (points) slogan.

Souness has watched in pain from afar. He was the man that introduced Dave Murray to the old club, he picked up an EBT and stood on the sidelines with business pal Brian Kennedy as liquidation followed administration.

The pain of financial reality is very real for Souness as he looks at a club living from hand to mouth without a limitless Bank of Scotland overdraft and having to pay tax on wages the same way as every other club.

Sky Sports invited a number of Scottish journalists to London to discuss matters with Souness- the feedback is unlikely to spark a stampede for Half Season Tickets.

Referring to the promises of King Souness told the Daily Record: “My understanding is the chairman saying he’s going to give money is where your problem lies.

Where the problem arises for Rangers supporters now is if the owner has come out and said he’s going to put money in and he hasn’t, then he has caused himself a problem.

If you make promises to football supporters it makes life doubly difficult if you don’t keep them.

Along with Brian Kennedy we were very close, we actually thought we had it. There was going to be a hard sell, that’s one of the things we were going to say on day one.

This is not going to be a short or easy road, there’s a long way to get it back anywhere near where you want it to be because you can’t spend money you don’t have. That was the message we’d have put across on day one and every day we needed to say it.”

Souness, who got his Rangers EBT while managing Blackburn Rovers added: “The manager hasn’t been given any chance. They don’t have any money, that’s the bottom line.

The lower leagues in England if you are talking about the Championship, Rangers can’t afford players in that league. I’d suggest they’d struggle to pay what’s in League One too.

That’s where they are right now and that’s the handicap they have.”

That is reality, the reality that every club in Scotland has dealt with since the Souness revolution, the reality of paying Inland Revenue, HMRC and living within their means.

While Souness celebrated his successes the clock was ticking down on Rangers with King left with a tribute act and the demand of supporters whose only goal in life is to stop Celtic.
