Nigel Spackman has become the latest former Rangers (IL) to voice his fears for the tribute act.

An away win for Aberdeen tomorrow will see Sevco drop to fourth place with the potential for Celtic to stretch 20 points ahead by the new year.

Spankers enjoyed the benefits of a salary paid for by the generosity of the Bank of Scotland as he switched Liverpool for Ibrox in 1990.

Dealing with the reality of life in 2016 seems beyond his comprehension with the club propped up by crisis loans with a banking benefactor and having HMRC all over them on a monthly basis.

Unless there’s a major investment into the club it’s going to be difficult to get beyond that (fighting for second) given the finances Celtic are getting for being in the Champions League,” Spackman told the Daily Record.

Even dropping into the Europa League, as they sometimes do, they’re still getting decent finance from that as well.

Their merchandise and ticket sales will be good as well so they become very hard to compete with.

I said at the start of the season the best thing Rangers could do this year is finish in the top four and maybe get back into Europe.

If they can finish second and get past Hearts and Aberdeen, that’s by far the best they can achieve.”

It seems that Spankers missed out on the close season hype inspired by the signing of Joey Barton which launched the #goingfor55 campaign.

With the season ticket money collected Sevco now have to deal with the anger as well as expectations of their fans- before asking for next season’s season ticket money based onm stopping Celtic’s seven in a row bid.
