Communications supremo Darryl Broadfoot is stepping down from his job at the SFA.

The former Rangers News and Herald reporter has been at the SFA for seven years and has played a key role in managing the liquidation of Rangers including drafting the highly sensitive Five Way Agreement.

Broadfoot was appointed during Gordon Smith’s brief reign at Hampden and quickly steered Stewart Regan into the job.

Regan showed some promise early in his career when the Ibrox crisis was developing and concerns were being raised about Craig Whyte and the 2011/12 UEFA licence despite an outstanding tax bill of £2.8m.

After emailing Rangers to discuss a response to the matter a meeting was arranged at a Glasgow hotel involving Mr Whyte, SFA President and EBT instigator Campbell Ogilvie and Regan where the subject was dropped and plans put in place for the survival myth.

Once Regan had bought into that fantasy his reign was doomed with no way back.

With Broadfoot leaving Regan becomes more exposed to the demands of the shareholders behind Resolution 12 with the new communications chief expected to quickly get upto speed with the various strands of the issue including dates, tax deadlines and excuses used for not following UEFA rules.

According to The Drum: “Broadfoot joins the Glasgow-based firm as a partner and is expected to commence his role on 27 March.

“The arrival of the Herald’s former chief football writer marks a period of growth for the agency which hired Alison Downs, the former head of PR firm Stripe, in August 2016. Account manager at The Big Partnership, Paddy Baxter, has also joined Frame and will start in April.”

Miller Homes, Social Bite and Perth Racecourse are among the clients of Frame.
