Willie Collum will take charge of Celtic’s Scottish Cup tie with Albion Rovers on Sunday- four weeks after sending off Callum McGregor against Hamilton Accies.

The Lanarkshire referee is rated as Scotland’s top official but came in for widespread criticism for McGregor’s dismissal for a second yellow card two minutes into the second half.

After the match Brendan Rodgers said: “It was never a sending off. It was a really poor decision. It wasn’t a tackle.

He’s run to try and press the guy who’s thrown the ball, and I always ask the players to jump to the thrower. He’s jumped forward but it wasn’t a tackle. They sort of fell into each other.”

Collum has had a typically controversial season, enraging manager and players across the board with his distant style of refereeing.

It seems that the SFA have cancelled the usual Spanish winter training camp with Collum refereeing through the winter break for Premier League sides.

Last Saturday he handed out three yellow cards in the Dunfermline v St Mirren match, the previous week seven players were booked as Hibs beat Dundee United 3-0 at Easter Road.

Craig Thomson will take charge of Saturday’s clash between Sevco and Motherwell at Ibrox.
