Is Brendan targeting Bojan

With Brendan Rodgers admitting that he has one transfer option that he may take up before the transfer window closes the guessing game is underway to find out who the mystery signing could be.

Celtic’s transfer targets are rarely predictable but under Rodgers the English market has been revisited with great success.

The transfer fees and wages are more costly but the hoops have had a fantastic return from Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure. Selling Sinclair or Dembele would instantly recover much more than the manager has spent.

One name that seems to excite the Celtic support is Bojan Krkic of Stoke City.

His exploits at the Britannia Stadium haven’t been much to write home about but a pedigree that covers Barcelona and Roma suggest that the 26-year-old may be more of a Champions League player than Premier League grafter.

Five starts in this season’s Premier League, plus four as a substitute have yielded three goals and plenty of frustration as Peter Crouch re-emerges into the Stoke team.

Middlesbrough have been strongly linked with Bojan but that lead seems to have gone cold with no other suggestions of interest.

Stoke paid Roma £3m for Bojan in 2014 but it seems that the players ambition to move onto a top English side has stalled as newer younger faces emerge onto the scene. Despite Leicester’s success last season it’s highly unlikely that Stoke will be hosting Champions League football any time soon.

Having played for Barcelona and Roma before enjoying the riches of Stoke it can be assumed that the 26-year-old has made a good living from the game.

If he still harbours ambitions on the playing side he can only look on enviously at the way Sinclair’s career has blossomed at Celtic.

Playing in the Champions League, scoring goals, matches every week have brought a smile back to the face of the former Manchester City misfit.

Whether Rodgers can repeat the magic on Bojan is unclear- if the beautiful game still holds appeal rather than the riches of bench duty in middle England there is a clear escape route open.

With a decent salary, a dedicated manager and 50,000 plus crowds on a fortnightly basis to entertain perhaps Celtic could be the club and platform that Bojan has been looking for?
