Mark Warburton is confident of keeping Barrie McKay at Ibrox despite imaginary bids for the 22-year-old starlet.

A claim that RB Leipzig were preparing a £6m bid was quickly dismissed by the German side but has prompted a frenzy of excitement at Sevco.

The £250,000 received from Warbo while he was in charge of Brentford for Lewis MacLeod in 2015 remains the only transfer fee that the club has ever received.

Online Sevco fans have debated the value of Mackay which seems mainly based on being the best of a bad bunch when they lost to Celtic at the end of last year.

If the ‘report’ of a bid from RB Leipzig was intended to flush out other interest it has failed spectacularly with no other club making a move for the 22-year-old.

In an attempt to feel relevant during the January transfer window Warbo told his club’s television station: “Barrie has just turned 22 but David and I have no doubt that he has a big career in the game but you hope very much it is here but with football you can’t control that.

There are no fears Barrie’s head has been turned, you saw at the weekend the level of his performance, his dynamism, his desire and his commitment to the club is undoubted.

I have no problems about Barrie McKay whatsoever; I want him to keep on working hard every day in training and watch his continue to develop in the weeks ahead.

You look at the prices being paid and you can see why Scottish players represent value but our job is to keep our best players and if any player leaves here they will leave here on Rangers terms.”

Warbo can be very certain that the transfer window will again close without any bids being made for any of the stars he has accumulated over the last 18 months.
