Teenage midfielder Joe Thomson has joined Queen of the South on loan after spending the first part of the season with Dumbarton.

The move will allow the teenage midfielder to train full time with his new club who use the facilities at Glasgow Green.

Queen’s are on a disastrous run of 13 matches without a win in The Championship with former Hearts and Everton defender Gary Naysmith recently taking charge.

Despite that run Queen’s are sitting in mid-table with 21 points from 19 matches, nine points ahead of bottom of the table St Mirren.

The Queen of the South website announced: “Nineteen year old, Paisley born, Joe Thomson may be more familiar to Queens fans having been on loan to Dumbarton for the first half of the season. He played in both their meetings with us.

He has two Championship goals already this season including a goal in their 4-4 draw with Ayr United on Christmas Eve. He will be allocated squad number 15.”

Thomson was a regular in the Celtic Development side for almost three seasons and made a first team appearance as a substitute away to Dundee United last season.

On Saturday Queen’s travel to face St Mirren followed by a trip to Tannadice the following week to take on promotion chasing Dundee United before completing a tough period by hosting Hibs at Palmerston Park.
