Lennon’s update on Kris Commons

|

Neil Lennon will have to play a waiting game to find out if Kris Commons will be back at Hibs.

The on loan midfielder scored the only goal of the game at Dumbarton today to stretch Hibs lead at the top of the Championship to six points.

Today’s match was the final fixture of his 28 day emergency loan with the player now due to return to Celtic.

Commons remains one of the top earners at Celtic but is unlikely to feature in Brendan Rodgers plans as the hoops boss looks to clinch the title and prepare for next season’s Champions League qualifiers.

Hibs would be unable to get close to matching those wages but Lennon is hopeful that the player will be back at Easter Road.

We haven’t really touched on [Commons’ future] yet,” the Hibs boss told Radio Scotland. “On Monday we’ll talk about it, and see how Kris is feeling as well. He’s a player we’d like to keep hold of, but finances will dictate that.

“Our squad’s still thin. We need to add a body or two and we’re looking to bring one more player in. Regardless of whether Kris stays or not, we’ve got the likes of James Keatings, Andrew Shinnie to occupy that position.”

Elsewhere in the Championship Joe Thomson scored for the second week running as Queen of the South drew 3-3 at Dundee United while Jamie Lindsay and Aidan Nesbitt helped Morton to a 2-0 win over Raith Rovers.
