Former Celt Omar Bogle was a £1m signing for Wigan last night.

The striker has scored 19 goals in 30 matches for League Two Grimsby Town after helping them to promotion to the Football League through a play-off win at Wembley.

A number of Championship sides were linked with Bogle but Wigan’s offer of £1m rising to £1.5m was agreed to by Grimsby.

It’s a remarkable rise for the 23-year-old who played for the Celtic youth side during the 2011/12 season, sharing the striking duties with Tony Watt.

Bogle left Celtic for Solihull Motors and attracted the attention of Grimsby Town where his career kicked off.

Wigan are currently third bottom of the Championship but are showing signs of improvement with three successive wins over Nottingham Forest, Burton Albion and Brentford.

Bogle is one of eight players to join Wigan during January with former Manchester United and Newcastle man Gabriel Obertang also signing up at the DW Stadium.
